¡IMPORTANTE!

Eduard.
The new Terminology and Problem-Solving card text:
1. "Remove from play" is now "Banish"

The phrase "remove from play" is being replaced with the single word "banish":
Old: Remove from play 1 face-up monster.
New: Banish 1 face-up monster.
Cards that were "removed from play cards" will now be called "banished cards‟:
Old: Both players Special Summon as many of their removed from play monsters as possible.
New: Both players Special Summon as many of their banished monsters as possible.
2. "Is removed from the field" is now "Leaves the field"

Another problem with "remove from play" is that people kept getting it mixed up with "remove from the field", which is something totally different. So now these terms will be "banished" and "leaves the field", instead.
"Banished" (which used to be "removed from play") means that the card goes off the board into that special place not depicted on the Game Mat.
"Leaves the field" (which used to be "is removed from the field") means that something was on the field, then went to the Graveyard, or to the hand, or was banished. (Note that effects that activate when a card leaves the field do NOT activate if it goes from the field to the Deck, since it gets lost in the shuffle.)
Old: When this card is removed from the field, Special Summon 1 “Reborn Tengu” from your Deck.
New: When this card leaves the field, Special Summon 1 “Reborn Tengu” from your Deck.
The only place you'll see "remove" from now on is when removing counters. Like "Remove 1 Spell Counter".
As you can see, the word "remove" was pulling triple duty, to mean 3 different things. This has now been fixed.
Take a look at what this does to cards like “Plaguespreader Zombie”:

Old: If you do, remove this card from play when it is removed from the field.
New: If you do, banish this card when it leaves the field.

3. Piercing Battle Damage
During battle between this attacking card and a Defense Position monster whose DEF is lower than the ATK of this card, inflict the difference as Battle Damage to your opponent.
This effect has been around for years, but we're simplifying the wording to just say the monster can do "piercing Battle Damage".
Old: During battle between this attacking card and a Defense Position monster whose DEF is lower than the ATK of this card, inflict the difference as Battle Damage to your opponent.
New: If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing Battle Damage to your opponent.
Note that the piercing effect only applies to Battle Damage. Which means that you still need to get to damage calculation so that Battle Damage actually happens. In other words, just because the wording is changing doesn't mean this is some magical new thing that happens when the attack is declared.
4. "Selected as an attack target" is now "targeted for an attack"

Let‟s take “Marauding Captain” as an example:

Old: Your opponent cannot select another face-up Warrior-Type monster as an attack target.
New: Your opponent cannot target face-up Warrior-Type monsters for attacks, except this one.
5. Hero monsters are now (mostly!) HERO monsters

We have 3 kinds of "Hero" monsters from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX right now: Elemental Heroes, Destiny Heroes, and Evil Heroes. Coming soon we'll be adding Masked Heroes and Vision Heroes to that list.
Right now, on cards like "Elemental Hero Stratos", we write out "Elemental Hero, Destiny Hero, or Evil Hero card" for effects that work on all 3 kinds. Instead of adding "or Masked Hero, or Vision Hero" in the future, we're going to pull a comic book-style retcon, and just change the names of all the GX Hero-class monsters from Hero to HERO (all-caps).
This applies to monster card names:

"Elemental HERO Tempest”
“Destiny HERO Dasher”
“Evil HERO Dark Gaia”
As well as effects. “Elemental HERO Stratos” for example would say:
Add 1 “HERO” monster from your Deck to your hand. Spell/Trap Cards are mostly unaffected, since they have lower-case names already and are not Hero-class monsters.
There are 3 exceptions to this rule. For monsters, “Hero Kid” is going to stay “Hero Kid” since it's not old enough to be a full-fledged HERO. On the other hand, “Hero's Bond” will become “HERO'S Bond”. But “HERO Flash!!” will become “Hero Flash!!”.

We plan to reprint most of these cards soon with the corrected names and texts. So everyone who wants to use the revised names can play with those updated cards, to avoid confusion.
But for now, until Masked HERO and Vision HERO cards start showing up, none of this will affect your gameplay at all.
6. Problem-solving card text: Timing, Targeting and Conditions
As far as rules go, the most important info on a card are its Timing, Targeting, and Conditions.
These are also the things that cause the most questions. For example:
- Timing: If we make a chain, do I do things when I activate my card or when the card resolves?
- Targeting: Does this card target something? If it has more than 1 target, what happens if one target goes away?
- Conditions: What if something changes between the moment I play the card and the moment it finishes up and goes to the Graveyard?

Starting in July, any card that hits on any of these key areas will have its text rewritten to answer all of your questions.
Here's how it works:
Monster Text
In the following this will be explained using colors, since our brains understand things better with colors. During these examples:
- Anything that explains CONDITIONS to activate a card, or limits WHEN or HOW OFTEN you can activate a card, will be written in green and called "green text". Green text limits when you can do things.

- Anything that happens WHEN YOU ACTIVATE a card will be written in red and called "red text". This includes things like costs and targeting.

- Anything that happens when you resolve a card will be written in blue and called "blue text". This is what happens when the card effect actually happens.

Remember that your actual cards will still be printed in black!

On your cards, instead of using colors, punctuation will let you tell what kind of text everything is.
- Conditions (green text) are now always followed by a colon (:).
- Activation text (red) is separated from the card effects (blue) by a semicolon (;).
The basic structure is CONDITIONS : ACTIVATION ; RESOLUTION.
Let‟s take the new “Sangan” as a simple example:

When this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard: Add 1 monster with 1500 or less ATK from your Deck to your hand.

Everything in green (before the colon) describes WHEN and under what conditions the effect happens. Everything in blue (after the colon) describes what happens when the effect resolves.
If there's a semicolon, then everything after the conditions is divided between what happens when you activate the card (red text, before the semicolon) and what happens when the card resolves (blue text, after the semicolon):

When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 2 Level 2 monsters in your Graveyard; Special Summon them, but their effects are negated.

When you activate a card or effect:
1. Make sure the green part (before the colon) is being followed.
2. Do the part in red (before the semicolon) if there is any.
3. After that, other cards and effects can be chained in response. If there's a chain, you don't do your card's effects (blue, after the colon / semicolon) until the chain resolves, in backwards order, like this:

Let‟s take an example of a 3-card Chain.
Player #1 Summons “Trident Warrior” and chooses to activate its effect. This starts a chain:

When this card is Normal Summoned: You can Special Summon 1 Level 3 monster from your hand.

Player #2 chains “Raigeki Break”, targeting Player #1's monster:

Discard 1 card to target 1 card on the field; destroy it.

But the card Player #2 targeted was a Gemini monster, so Player #1 responds with “Gemini Spark”:

Tribute 1 face-up Level 4 Gemini monster you control to target 1 card on the field; destroy it and draw 1 card.

Using the colons and semicolons, you can build the chain like this:
1. Player #1's Trident Warrior: (it has no red text, but it still goes on the chain structure even though nothing happens yet)
2. Player #2's Raigeki Break: Discard 1 card to target 1 card on the field; (at this point, Player #2 discards 1 card, and targets Player #1's monster)
3. Player #1's Gemini Spark: Tribute 1 face-up Level 4 Gemini monster you control to target 1 card on the field; (at this point, Player #1 Tributes his monster and targets one of Player #2's cards)
4. Player #1's Gemini Spark resolves: destroy it and draw 1 card. (Player #1 does these things)
5. Player #2's Raigeki Break resolves: destroy it. (The monster isn't on the field anymore so nothing happens)
6. Player #1's Trident Warrior resolves: Special Summon 1 Level 3 monster from your hand. (Player #1 does this)

Red goes on top, Blue on the bottom. In other words: everything before the semicolons happens first (all piled together in order), then everything after the semicolons (again, all piled up in order).
BIG TIP: If there‟s a colon or semicolon in the new text, that always means an effect that starts a chain. If there is no colon or semicolon, the effect does NOT start a chain and cannot be chained to.
“Sangan” starts a chain. You will know this because it uses a colon:

When this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard: Add 1 monster with 1500 or less ATK from your Deck to your hand.

“Cyber Dragon” does NOT start a chain. You will know this because it does not use a colon:
If your opponent controls a monster and you control no monsters, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand).
Spell and Trap Text
Spells and Traps always start a chain at some point, because activating the Spell/Trap starts a chain all by itself.
Some Spells & Traps won't have a colon or a semicolon. But they still start a chain when you activate the Spell or Trap. (Summoning a monster doesn‟t start a chain, so that‟s why they‟re different).
“Creature Swap”, for example, has no colon or semicolon. In fact, its text is exactly the same as before because everything on “Creature Swap” happens when the effect resolves:

Each player chooses 1 monster they control and switches control of those monsters with each other. Those monsters cannot change their battle positions for the rest of this turn.

Many Trap Cards have Conditions, so they will have a colon in the text. This doesn‟t make them play any differently from a Spell/Trap without a colon, though. The new “Seven Tools of the Bandit” looks like this, for example:

When a Trap Card is activated: Pay 1000 Life Points; negate the activation and destroy it.

The colon is there to show that this card has specific conditions to activate it. The semicolon is there to separate what you do when you activate this card, vs. what you do when the card resolves.

Yugioh European Championship 2011 - Featured Match: Fabio Minicozzi (ITA) - [Fabled] VS Eduard Álvarez (ESP) - [Tengu Plant Synchro - Zombyra DDV]

Konami:

"Another Feature Match! This time we’ve got (2010 and 2011) Italian National Champion Fabio Minicozzi facing off against 2011 Spanish National Videogame Champion Eduard Álvarez! Álvarez was a finished 2nd at the 2009 European Championship, and 12th in his TCG National Championship this year. Let’s see how these 2 talented Duelists get on!

Fabio Minicozzi's using the Deck he won his National Championship with, Fabled!

Minicozzi opened with a Set Sangan and 2 Spell or Trap Cards.
Álvarez Normal Summoned Reborn Tengu and destroyed Sangan in battle, letting Minicozzi add The Fabled Cerburrel to his hand.
Minicozzi drew Fabled Krus and Normal Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld, Special Summoning Fabled Kushano from his Deck. Next up was Card Destruction and both Duelists got a new hand, but Minicozzi had also discarded Fabled Krus, The Fabled Cerburrel and Fabled Ganasha, Summoning Cerburrel and Ganasha right away! He Set 2 Spells/Traps and Tunes Tour Guide and Cerburrel together to Summon Fabled Ragin and draw 1 card. Next, Fabled Grimro was discarded to get a The Fabled Chawa from Minicozzi’s Deck to his hand. Minicozzi discarded The Fabled Cerburrel to Summon Chawa, and got Cerburrel back for free, which was Tuned with Fabled Ganasha to Summon another Ragin and draw 2 cards. The Fabled Chawa and a Fabled Ragin combined to bring out Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier. Another Fabled Grimro was discarded to get another The Fabled Cerburrel, which was then used for Brionac’s effect to bounce Reborn Tengu back to Álvarez’s hand (he Special Summoned another copy). The Fabled Cerburrel was Special Summoned as Minicozzi discarded Fabled Ganasha to fling the second Tengu away and Álvarez got his final copy. Minicozzi followed all this up with Pot of Avarice, sending 2 Fabled Grimro, The Fabled Chawa, Fabled Krus and Fabled Ragin back to his Deck (and Extra Deck) to draw 2 cards. He discarded Fabled Krus, for Fabled Kushanos effect, and Krus’ effect Special Summoned The Fabled Cerburrel. Minicozzi’s field now consisted of 3 Set Spells or Traps, 2 Cerburrels, and a Ganasha, Ragin and Brio. Cerburrel and Ragin combined to Summon Ancient Sacred Wyvern, Fabled Kushano was discarded to Summon The Fabled Chawa, which was Tuned with Fabled Ganasha to Summon Fabled Ragin again, and Minicozzi (finally!) attacked with all of his monsters to win the Duel!

This is Turn 3!?

Fabio Minicozzi takes Duel 1 in a single sensational turn!

Eduard Álvarez was running some cool tech!

Álvarez started Duel 2 with Reborn Tengu and 3 Set Spell or Trap Cards.
Minicozzi Normal Summoned Snipe Hunter, discarded Fabled Ganasha to target Álvarez’s Enemy Controller, which was Chained. Álvarez Tributed his Tengu, took the Snipe Hunter and Summoned another Tengu from his Deck (Minicozzi Special Summoned Ganasha at the same time with its effect). Minicozzi discarded Fabled Grimro to add The Fabled Cerburrel to his hand before playing Mind Control on Snipe Hunter, but Álvarez had another Enemy Controller, Tributing Snipe Hunter to take Fabled Ganasha! Minicozzi Set a Spell or Trap and got his Ganasha back in the End Phase.
Álvarez Normal Summoned Spore and Tuned it with Reborn Tengu to Synchro Summon T.G. Hyper Librarian, which was negated by Solemn Warning. Another Tengu was Summoned.
Minicozzi Normal Summoned The Fabled Cerburrel, used Instant Fusion (pay 1000 Life Points) to Summon Darkfire Dragon from his Extra Deck, and Synchro Summoned Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier. Brionac’s effect discarded Fabled Krus to return Álvarez’s Set card to his hand. Krus’ effect Special Summoned The Fabled Cerburrel, which combined with Fabled Ganasha to Summon Fabled Ragin and draw 2 cards. Ragin took down Tengu, and Brionac doesn't attacked directly, because Álvarez seems to have Gorz the Emissary of Darkness.
Álvarez Normal Summoned Debris Dragon, Special Summoned Spore and took Brionac with Mind Control. He then discarded Zombyra the Dark (!) to return Debris Dragon to his hand, and Tuned Brionac with Spore to Summon Black Rose Dragon and destroy Fabled Ragin in battle.
Minicozzi drew De-Synchro, Summoned Snipe Hunter and discarded Fabled Ganasha (which was Special Summoned) to destroy Black Rose. Álvarez was now on 4100 Life Points after the ensuing direct attacks.
Álvarez read Fabled Ragins effect before playing Debris Dragon, getting back Spore again. He then usedMonster Reborn on his Black Rose Dragon, Synchro Summoned Scrap Dragon and destroyed Snipe Hunter in battle. Álvarez then destroyed Debris Dragon and Fabled Ganasha with Scrap Dragons effect, Ganasha was banished.
Minicozzi used his De-Synch, returning Scrap Dragon to the Extra Deck! (no monsters were Special Summoned as the Synchro Materials weren’t in Minicozzi’s Graveyard) He attacked directly with a Fabled Grimro.
Álvarez Set a Trap.
Minicozzi Normal Summoned Fabled Krus, and when he attacked with both of his monsters, Grimro was banished by Dimensional Prison
Álvarez now Set a monster.
Minicozzi took down Glow-Up Bulb in battle and Set a Spell or Trap.

A blast from the past!

Álvarez activated Reinforcement of the Armyto get Zombyra the Dark to his hand before Summoning it. Glow-Up Bulb was then Summoned, and Book of Moon went to the Graveyard. Zombyra attacked over Grimro and Álvarez Synchro Summoned T.G. Hyper Librarian.
Minicozzi drew Pot of Avarice! Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, Fabled Ragin, 2 Fabled Krus and Snipe Hunter went back to the Deck, and Minicozzi drew De-Synchro and Monster Reborn! He showed both cards to his opponent and Álvarez conceded!
Fabio Minicozzi takes 2 swift Duels to seal the Match!

That explains the inclusion of Zombyra then!"
Espero que os guste, un saludo.

Eduard.

Exceed Summoning Rulings

Extra stuff under general rulings

- Exceed materials are not considered to be on the field (as previously mentioned), despite the card text of Exceed Energy stating to remove Exceed materials from the field.

- When an Exceed materials leaves play, it is considered as 'Sent to grave' (Though not from field), and not 'Removed from play'

- The Exceed materials is considered to be similar to magic counters on a card. However, the difference is that the Exceed materials stay on the Exceed monster if it turns face down, unlike how magic counters on a monster are removed.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Extra stuff under FAQ

Q: Can you use monsters which cannot be released / cannot be used as fusion or synchro materials for an Exceed summon?
A: Yes you may

Q: If you use a trap monster as an Exceed summon, can you use the magic / trap zone the trap monster was originally on?
A: Once the trap monster has been used for an Exceed summon, you may use the magic / trap zone

Q: If you use a monster that was revived through Call of Haunted for an Exceed summon, will Call of Haunted be destroyed?
A: No, Call of Haunted will not be destroyed

Q: If you use a monster that was revived through Angel Lift / Miracle Fertilizer for an Exceed summon, will those cards be destroyed?
A: No, it will not be destroyed

Q: If you use a monster that was revived / controlled through Birthright / Tuner's Scheme for an Exceed summon, will those cards be destroyed?
A: 調整中 (Wiki's famous 3 word answer for to be confirmed)

Q: If you use Doom Shaman's effect to revive a demon from your grave, then use Doom Shaman for an Exceed summon, will the revived demon be destroyed?
A: No, it will not be destroyed (Looks like some new abuse method after Zombie Carrier)

Q: If the Doom Shaman as an Exceed material from the above example is sent to grave, will the revived demon be destroyed?
A: No, it will not be destroyed

Q: When you activate an Exceed monster's effect and remove an Exceed material, is the Exceed material sent to grave?
A: Yes, it is sent to grave (Sounds like some super obvious answer, oh well)

Q: Q: If Banisher of Radiance or Macrocosmos is on the field and the Exceed monster activates its effect and removes an Exceed material, what happens to the Exceed material?
A: The Exceed material is removed from game

Q: If Dimension Fissure is on the field and the and the Exceed monster activates its effect and removes an Exceed material, what happens to the Exceed material?
A: The Exceed materials are sent to grave

-> The above 2 questions are similar to the questions on my previous blog post, with the exception that this is for activating effect, while previously it was for the Exceed monster leaving the field. Seems like an extremely obvious answer which we can derive from the previous example. I guess its just to be even more obvious for questions any rule sharkers may ask

Q: If a Zombie Carrier has used its revival effect, and is used for an Exceed summon, then leaves the field as cost to activate the Exceed monster's effect, is the Zombie Carrier sent to grave?
A: Yes, the Zombie Carrier is sent to grave (Again more obvious answer)

Q: If Dragunity Phalanx is used for an Exceed summon, can you activate Dragunity Phalanx's effect?
A: No, as becoming an Exceed material is different from being an equipment card (LOL question)

Q: If you use Elemental Hero - Absolute Zero for an Exceed summon, can you activate Absolute Zero's effect?
A: No you may not, as the card is not considered to have left field (Fail)

Q: If Elemental Hero - Absolute Zero is an Exceed material and leaves play, can you activate Absolute Zero's effect?
A: No you may not, as the card is not considered to have left field (Even more fail. I guess as per Exceed summon rulings from the previous post, becoming an Exceed material, and from an Exceed material status to enter grave, both are not considered as leaving field) -> No Reborn Tengu abuse for you

Q: If Light & Darkness Dragon is an Exceed material and the Exceed monster is destroyed, can you activate LADD's effect?
A: No, as it is not considered to be destroyed and sent to grave

Q: If you have Demon Summon on the field as an Exceed material with no other cards having Demon in its name, and you activate Falling Down, will Falling Down self destruct?
A: Yes, since you are not considered to have any monsters on the field that has Demon in its name.

Q: If you have Rai-Jin on the field as an Exceed material with no other Rai-Jin on the field, can you summon Rai-Jin?
A: Yes you may, as the previous Rai-Jin is not considered to be on the field

Q: If you have 2 monsters with the effect (You may only have 1 copy of the card with the same name on the field), which had their effect negated by Skill Drain, and both were used for an Exceed summon. If the Skill Drain is destroyed after that, what happens to the 2 Exceed materials with the same name?
A: Nothing happens, as the 2 Exceed materials are not considered as monsters and therefore were not even affected by Skill Drain in the first place (This is in sync with the previous ruling that Exceed materials are not on the field, so they are not even affected by the 'only 1 copy on the field' effect anyway. This is probably a more accurate explanation of the ruling)

Q: A flipped summoned Dark Familiar (TCG - Spear Cretin) is used for an Exceed summon. When it is sent to grave as an Exceed material, can you activate its effect?
A: No you may not. (Seems like a different ruling that conflicts with Dandylion. I would explain it as its effect has disappeared once it became an Exceed material, since its effect has an additional condition to it)

Q: If Vairon Stealer is used for an Exceed summon. When it is sent to grave as an Exceed material, can you activate its effect?
A: No you may not. (Since it is not considered to be on the field, it cannot be considered to have entered grave from the monster card zone)

Q: Can you use Dark Highlander's effect on an Exceed monster which has Exceed material(s)?
A: No as Exceed material(s) is not considered as an equipment card.

Meklord Astro Mekanikle

Once per turn, during your Standby Phase, you can send 1 of those monsters to the Graveyard to inflict damage to your opponent equal to its ATK. You cannot conduct your Battle Phase the turn you activate this effect.
